FIELD TRIPS TO MIT

MIT's COE2C has had a long-standing history of educational programming, from curriculum packages and on-line environmental health games, to field trips and teacher training workshops.

Two popular components of our environmental health science education programs that are currently available are the one-day programs maintained through partnerships with the MIT Museum and MIT's Edgerton Center.

Transcribing DNA with LEGO models

MIT Museum's partnership with CEHS began with COE2C providing a gallery lesson for one of the Museum's "Family Adventures in Science & Technology" (F.A.S.T.) events, and continued with the creation of a gallery/classroom space for better understanding DNA and protein synthesis called "The Cell". Workshops with the LEGO DNA and protein models are available. Inquire about scheduling. See below.

To schedule MIT MUSEUM student workshops, please go to the MIT Museum Workshop page, and learn more about "DNA Learning Lab: DNA and Proteins" and "DNA Learning Lab: Protein Synthesis". For additional information, please email Amanda Gruhl, angruhl@mit.edu. (Downloadable brochure available here.) CEHS members welcome at all events.

MIT's Edgerton Center offers the education programs as single-class field trips to the MIT campus, though all of the teaching materials for each of the three lessons are available on-line. The lessons available are "Grungy Groundwater", "Shape of Life: from helix to chromosome" and "Living LEGO".

To schedule EDGERTON CENTER student activities, please go to the Edgerton Center Activities page. For additional information, please email Amy Fitzgerald, amyfitz@mit.edu. (Downloadable brochure available here.) CEHS members welcome at all events.
