Led by COEC Director, Kathy Vandiver, each day begins with several engaging activities to refresh core concepts including cell division, mutation, DNA damage and repair, and protein synthesis. We include a trip to the MIT Museum’s “Learning Lab: the Cell” on Wednesday. The afternoons feature lab work and research presentations on DNA damage and repair by Prof. Jackie Yanch and Prof. Bevin Engelward. A hands-on investigation with mutant yeast cells will be conducted in the Samson Lab. This investigation may be made available for classroom use in 2009. |
