WHO IS COEC?

The Community Outreach and Education Core (COEC) of the MIT Center for Environmental Health Sciences (CEHS) focuses on educational activities for the K-12 school community and for families through classroom activities, museum parternerships, teacher workshops and other programs. COEC is co-directed by Kathy Vandiver and Prof. Bevin Engelward, with Amy Fitzgerald as Coordinator.

OBJECTIVES

The major objectives of the CEHS COEC are to inform children and adults about the impact of the environment on human health and to empower people to make wise choices about lifestyle and their relationship to the environment.

COEC achieves these objectives by:

  • translating and "demystifying" the latest research findings in environmental health science
  • lowering the barriers between academia and the K-12 community
  • fostering strong partnerships with community educational groups through activities.
